Research notes

Listed as Emmons, 11, in his parents' 1900 household; probate in Oklahoma. His gravestone reads 1888-1922; whether he died at Vinita, as the tree says, or at Tulsa is not settled. Some images attached to him in the tree (a class photograph, a neighbouring portrait and an allotment-record cover) do not securely identify him.

His legal work at Tulsa (R6-C02 research, 25 Sep 2026). His signed 1917 draft card and his signed 1920 passport application give the same birth date, 1 Sep 1888, and birthplace, Gloster, Mississippi, and both place him at Tulsa, so both are his (Confirmed). On 5 Jun 1917 he described himself as a corporation lawyer employed by the Mid-Co. Petroleum Co. of Tulsa, so his work then was probably corporate legal work for an oil company (Likely). On 18 Feb 1920 he described himself as an attorney at law with his permanent residence at Tulsa, and named no employer. That he practised law at Tulsa from at least June 1917 to February 1920 is Likely: these are two descriptions of himself, and nothing documents the years between. The census taken a month before the application, on 15 Jan 1920, entered his occupation as 'None'; why is not known. No particular case, client, court appearance, firm or partnership of his has been found, and nothing has been found on his work in 1916, 1918-1919 or 1921-1922 (Unconfirmed). The one Tulsa newspaper page read, the Tulsa Daily World of 2 Feb 1916, has only a society-column item that says nothing about his work. The family tree's entry calling him an 'Assistant Attorney' on West Seventh Street about 1916 is not supported by any record read so far (Unconfirmed), although his 1917 address was on that street. The application's stated purpose, commercial business in Mexico with a sailing from Galveston or New Orleans about 25 Feb 1920, records his plan; no record of the journey or of the business has been examined.
